Nashville’s ‘Small-Town Feel with Big-City Attractions’
Continue to Draw New Residents to Music City Even in Times of Crisis

Nashville has experienced several years being known as the “It City” because of its ongoing appeal to people as a vacation destination, a place to locate your business, and an ideal place to live. One business professional who has been involved with businesses relocating to Nashville for several years is Denise Cummins of Nashville Relocation Services and Parks Realty.

For the past couple of decades, Cummins has worked with some of the Nashville area’s largest and most dynamic businesses to help them with their employees’ relocation needs. While it may be early to project the buying trends into the uncertain future, Cummins has seen the relocation market remain steady, if not even stronger in the midst of the COVID-19-related economic downturn.

“My residential real estate business has remained pretty steady,” said Cummins. “In fact, it appears that Nashville is becoming even more of a magnet for clients in bigger cities who are now ready to leave the more crowded ‘big-city life’ for Nashville living. Honestly, I expected a bit of a freeze in the real estate market while we all figure out how to best live and work during a pandemic, but I’ve actually seen an increase in people looking to move to Nashville and the surrounding counties at this time.”

One recent client who moved here from Chicago in May of 2020 said, “Because I am now able to work remotely, a city the size and layout of Nashville feels more comfortable and attractive for me to locate my family these days. Denise was able to show us properties in the city that still felt like I was out in a suburb. Nashville residents have so many interesting neighborhoods from which to choose. We are thrilled to be some of Nashville’s newest residents now.”

Another longtime corporate client with whom Cummins has worked for several years said, “We are seeing employees currently living in other cities want to move here to Nashville in a slightly increasing rate these days,” said Antonio Hern of Energy Resources Group. “The secret has been out about Nashville’s appeal for years, but giving these times, it appears that it holds an increased attraction to many people in the bigger cities.”

Today’s closings look differently than those that existed prior to the COVID-19 virus.

“We wear face masks in our in-person closings and meet at tables with a glass partition between us at the signings,” said Cummins. “The clients are so happy to be moving to Nashville, and to still safely conduct these important transactions, that we hardly notice the health precautions … until we take the social media photo, that is. But, that’s part of the process these days. We’re all just happy that this business is still strong.”
